We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Viva Vinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Viva below.
Viva, appreciate you joining us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
With over 20 years of experience, Viva Vinson has taught for arts educational and community organizations ranging from the Therapeutic Living Center for the Blind, teaching abstract art, musical theater and acting to adults with disabilities, to Isana Academies teaching voice and drama to students grades K-8th, to Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore teaching voice, music fundamentals and performance to collage students, to directing Wizard of Oz for the Special Needs Network with Autistic students. As an artist and arts educational specialist who’s traveled, performed, and taught throughout America and Asia, Viva offers a wealth of experience. Viva focuses on integrating arts education into academic learning, as well as cultivating skills for advance learning.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
OUR MISSION The mission of Vinson Arts Education is to provide excellence in Performing-Arts education for ALL!
We support students at all interest levels. We cultivate and refine talent, etiquette, and accountability for those who desire to pursue a professional career stream in the performing arts, as well as cultivate and support students who have a passion for the performing arts, but who may not have career aspirations.
We believe performing arts education can foster positive growth and self-development like no other discipline. An arts education can cultivate specific faculties and skills that will help children and young adults throughout their lives. Arts education is extremely effective in advancing students’ focus, discipline, cooperative and critical thinking skills, and problem-solving, fostering independence and confidence. We will help students discover and develop their unique skills and talents through focused, integrated arts education with high standards while having a ton of fun in the process. We believe that performing arts education can help to communicate powerful ideas and can be a strong catalyst and agency for change. We hope to broaden the conversation of Social Justice and racial and cultural equity with our students through the use of drama, dance, theater, visual art and music.

Can’t Hurt Me
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Struggling as a performing artist, I realized I had a deep passion to educate and help underserved youth through arts education. Arts Education enriches and forms my work as an artist and vise versa.
